Our Story
In Melbourne, Australia, the Good Shepherd Convent Colombo Past Pupils Association, established in 1980, continues to carry forward the legacy of service and fellowship. This group of dedicated past students gathers socially several times a year with the dual purpose of fostering camaraderie and raising funds to support the education of current students at Good Shepherd Convent Kotahena.
Over the years, the association has contributed significantly to the school through various initiatives. These include funding scholarships for needy students, purchasing computers and musical instruments for the school band, upgrading the science lab, acquiring essential school equipment and furniture, and supporting the maintenance of school buildings.
The association remains a shining example of the enduring bond between past pupils and their alma mater, united in their mission to uphold the values of the Good Shepherd and ensure the continued growth and success of the school.
Our School
The Good Shepherd sisters led by Sr Mary Euphrasia Pelletier, Foundress of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, who was French came to Sri Lanka then known as Ceylon in the mid 1800s and very quickly set about establishing a school for ladies in 1869. The congregation of sisters were also known for their charitable works with assisting the downtrodden and needy. It was named Good Shepherd Convent Kotahena which became the first of many branches around the island.
The school comprises both Primary and Secondary classes in Science, and Arts subjects. In the early days education was provided mainly by the nuns, but in the years following lay teachers joined the academic ranks that made up the teaching staff. The school is now a well established and well known Catholic Educational institution for Ladies situated in Colombo with a 152 year history.
